The Taser Pulse, A Compact Personal Protection Gadget That Packs A Punch

Taser International launched a whole new electronic control device (ECD) at the 2016 SHOT Show. The weapon is designed for non-law enforcement application and is referred to as the Pulse. Unlike the existing C2 weapon designed for civilian use, the Pulse is pistol shaped and is a link amongst the C2 and the X26 typically utilized by police departments.

Taser fashioned the Pulse to be more of an intuitive use gadget since a lot of folks are familiar with the way a pistol functions. It features a low profile thumb safety and angled sights to make it more amenable to concealed carry. The exchangeable cartridge has a 15 feet range.

Similar to the X26, the device has a built in red laser for aiming. Furthermore, the system uses a LED white light for lighting. Based on my experience with the X26 in actual deployments, I found the laser performed well.

Similar to the C2, the Pulse is designed to deliver a varied electrical pulse over 30 seconds. The concept is this will make it possible for the user to flee the scene in case the probes are properly deployed. This differs from the models marketed to law enforcement officials where the pulse duration is a lot less: 5 seconds.
